I’ve Been Published Again!
2 Images Chosen - Teen Years Magazine
As many of you know who read my blog before this one, I recently decided to move out of my comfort zone and begin entering my images into magazines in hopes of being published. I decided this time around to really focus on a few images I was really proud of and felt showed off my photography style. I had the same jitters as last time. Self doubt crept in more than once including after I had hit the submit button. The thought of “what if I don’t get any images in” more than once almost caused me to change my mind and not enter any images. But then I began to wonder “what if I do get an image in”. This could not only validate again for me that the millions of hours I have already put in to creating my craft was worth it but that I was also better than I have been giving myself credit for. After entering my images, I soon learned that there were over 2,000 images entered in this international publication from other professional photographers. I again was up against many amazing photographers. So despite again second guessing myself over and over, I decided to once again tell my self doubting self to shut up and go for it. I can not begin to tell you how happy I am that I told myself to shut up and just do it. I can not believe that not only was one of my images published but I had 2 images published in this magazine. The images of Cassandra and Katie were chosen and published in the fall edition of Teen Years Magazine international publication.
Cassandra’s Winning Image
Cassandra is a senior and attends Cedar Crest High School. I am also lucky to mentioned that she is one of my Senior Influencers. Cassandra requested to have her session at an urban setting but also wanted a bridge as well. Together we chose downtown Lebanon and Swatara State Park for her senior session locations. Cassandra was so much fun to spend an afternoon with. I had so much fun with Cassandra in fact that I lost track of time and we ended up having one of my longest Senior Influencer sessions ever. I loved all of her outfits that she wore, especially her ballet uniform.
Cassandra was amazing to work with and knew just how to pose the right way and needed very little direction from me. But when she pulled out her violin, I immediately knew what I wanted to do. I could clearly seeing her standing on the bridge with her playing her violin and the wind blowing her hair just right. Then it happened. As soon as she picked up her violin, placed it under her chin, and brought her bow up to begin playing, the wind began to blow just right and that is when I began to start clicking away like there was no tomorrow. There was no way I was going to mess this up and miss the opportunity I had envisioned only moments before. I got so many images of Cassandra nailing her session but this pose was the one that stood out as one of my favorites from her session. In fact, there were so many amazing images from her session that it took me awhile to decide on which one I wanted to enter. Boy, am I glad I decided on this image!
Katie’s Winning Image
Katie is a senior at ELCO High School. I am lucky to also mentioned that she is another one of my amazing Senior Influencers. Katie requested to have her senior session at Conrad Weiser Homestead. This is a very popular location for many seniors. There are so many beautiful settings to use there and it also provides a lot of variation for backgrounds in senior photos. Katie was up for anything and I had so much fun with her. The colors she chose for her wardrobe went perfect with the many backgrounds we used. We even found a flower bush the same bright pink as her top!
We were walking around the homestead when I saw how the light was hitting one particular spot. I decided I wanted to see how it would look if I had Katie pose in that spot. Once she stood there I knew it was the perfect lighting for an image. The white flowers from the tree behind her was an added bonus as it gave a dash of color that was so needed. Once I began to go thru Katie’s images after her session, I was drawn to this particular image of her because everything that was in that shot of her looked so pretty together. When choosing an image of her for the magazine entry, I found that she totally rocked this image. The lighting fell on Katie in just the right way and she looked so pretty that I just couldn’t pass this image up for the magazine. I would say that I definitely choose the right one of her since this image made it into the Teen Years Magazine’s fall issue.
Both Cassandra and Katie are so deserving of this honor. They both rocked their senior session and brought more than just their beauty but also effortless posing and the willingness to do whatever I asked of them even if they felt like their session was never ending. Without them, I might not have had images chosen for the magazine. Now their images get to sit in a magazine full of other numerous teens from all over the world!
